Exhibitions In its prominent glass cube, the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart hosts three to four major special exhibitions each year. The largest portion of the museum, however, is hidden in a disused system of tunnels, whose scale and openness is always a surprise to the first-time visitor. The smaller exhibitions shown in the former tunnel system provide a closer look at aspects of the collection or else offer counterpoints, as with the series »Frischzelle« (Live-cell). The museum collection as a whole is enlivened by the presence of both continuity and change: while the famous paintings by Otto Dix will be familiar to many visitors, the fragrance of Wolfgang Laib’s Wachsraum (Wax Room) will spawn fresh impressions, as will the installation by Olaf Nicolai with its 400 books in bright colors.
