Christian Marclay: The Clock
“The Clock” is coming to Stuttgart!
The Kunstmuseum Stuttgart is proud to premiere in Germany Christian Marclay’s critically acclaimed 24 hour video. Winning the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale in 2011, “The Clock” has since mesmerized audiences around the world. The public will be able to enjoy the complete 24 hour duration on two special occasions, allowing viewers to experience the work at all hours of the day and night.
Searching the vast archive of film and television, in which clocks are depicted or time is referenced, Marclay sampled thousands of clips representing each minute of a day. With virtuosic skill, the artist has edited each of these moments to form a 24-hour montage, synchronized with the local time of the exhibition space, conflating cinematic time with actual time. Our perception of time is tested and challenged by the workʼs many different narratives, which has no beginning or end.
