House Rules of the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart

1. The Director of the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, acting through museum staff and appointed security personnel, exercises authority on the museum premises. Visitors must comply with all instructions issued by them.
2. In the event of high visitor numbers or other exceptional circumstances, individual exhibition spaces or the entire museum building may be temporarily closed for safety reasons. Access cannot be guaranteed, even for visitors who have already purchased admission tickets.

1. To ensure an enjoyable visit for you and all other visitors, we ask that you treat others with consideration and conduct yourself in a manner that does not compromise safety, order, or the well-being of others.
2. For your own safety, please do not enter restricted areas and keep stairways, passageways, and emergency exits clear at all times. In the event of an alarm or emergency, follow the instructions of security personnel without delay and leave the building via the designated emergency exits. Elevators must not be used during an evacuation.
3. The use of fire and open flames is prohibited throughout the building. Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the premises, including the use of e-cigarettes and vaping devices. The consumption of cannabis is not permitted within the museum building.
4. Animals are not permitted in the exhibition areas. Exceptions apply to assistance dogs within the meaning of Section 12e (3) of the German Disability Equality Act (Behindertengleichstellungsgesetz, BGG). Appropriate documentation must be carried and presented upon request.
5. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the museum. Use of the Wi-Fi service is subject to the terms of use displayed upon login, which must be accepted before access is granted.
6. Charging private electronic devices is not permitted.
7. Any commercial activity within the museum premises is prohibited unless expressly authorized by us in writing. The distribution of flyers, brochures, advertising materials, or product samples, as well as any form of soliciting or begging, is likewise prohibited.
8. As a cultural institution of the City of Stuttgart, the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart is committed to the principles of the free democratic constitutional order. In matters of day-to-day politics, the museum remains politically neutral. Political, religious, or ideologically motivated activities within the museum premises are permitted only with the prior written approval of the Museum Directorate. This also applies to conduct that may reasonably be perceived as constituting such activity. Extremist, racist, antisemitic, discriminatory, or dehumanizing actions, statements, symbols, or insignia are prohibited.

The designated contact persons or group leaders are responsible for the conduct of group members during group visits. In the case of school classes and kindergarten groups, the accompanying teachers and educators are responsible for supervision. They must ensure that the group remains together at all times. If adequate supervision cannot be ensured, guided tours may be terminated. In such cases, no refund of tour fees will be provided.

1. Children under the age of 13 are welcome when accompanied by an adult.
2. Supervising adults are responsible for the children in their care and must ensure appropriate behavior during their visit to the museum. To protect the artworks and in consideration of other visitors, running, rough play, and throwing objects (such as toys) are not permitted in the exhibition areas.
3. A room for changing and nursing infants is available on the ground floor (changing and first-aid room).

1. Strollers (without additional bags attached), wheelchairs, walkers, and comparable mobility aids may be used in the exhibition areas.
2. Please note that access with strollers may be restricted in certain areas for safety reasons.
3. Wheelchairs are available on request for the duration of your visit.

1. A cloakroom and lockers are available in the museum foyer. Use is at your own risk. The museum does not accept items for safekeeping. Liability is governed by statutory provisions.
2. To protect the artworks, the carrying of bulky, sharp-edged, or pointed objects (e.g. umbrellas, back carriers, hiking sticks) into the exhibition areas is prohibited. Medically necessary items are exempt from this rule.
3. Bags and backpacks larger than A4 size may not be taken into the exhibition areas; they must be left at the cloakroom or stored in the lockers.
4. To ensure suitable climatic conditions in the exhibition areas, wet or damp clothing must be left at the cloakroom or stored in the lockers.
5. We kindly ask for your understanding that any outerwear not deposited at the cloakroom or in the lockers must be worn throughout your visit in the exhibition areas in order to prevent unintentional contact with the artworks. In case of doubt, security staff shall decide whether items are permitted inside the exhibition areas.
6. Please note that lockers are opened after the museum closes each day. The contents are documented and treated as lost property. The same applies to items left at the cloakroom. Lost property is subject to the statutory duty of safekeeping and reporting to the Lost Property Office of the City of Stuttgart.

1. Under no circumstances may artworks be touched. Please also maintain an appropriate distance from the artworks (at least 50 cm). Any corresponding safety markings must be observed.
2. Please note that you are legally liable for any damage to artworks or museum facilities at the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart caused by your conduct. Supervising adults are responsible for the behavior of the persons under their care.
3. Food and drinks are permitted in the foyer only, but not in the exhibition areas. The carrying of liquids into these areas is also prohibited.
4. When using mobile phones, please be considerate of other visitors and ensure a non-disruptive volume level. Please make phone calls in the exhibition areas only in exceptional cases.
5. Please handle all museum fixtures and fittings with care. Digital devices (e.g. tablets, media guides) must not be tampered with or used for purposes other than intended.
6. When drawing in the exhibition areas, only graphite pencils and colored wooden pencils are permitted. Clipboards up to DIN A4 size may be used. Erasers and pencil sharpeners are not permitted.
7. For conservation reasons, the use of any light sources in the exhibition areas (e.g. flashlights, smartphone lights) is not permitted.

1. Photography and video recording for private use are generally permitted inside the building and in the exhibition areas. Exceptions are clearly indicated. Flash, additional lighting, as well as tripods, selfie sticks, drones, and similar equipment are not permitted. The personal rights of other visitors must be strictly respected. Staff may only be photographed or filmed with their explicit consent.
2. Visitors are responsible for complying with copyright regulations. Copyright expires 70 years after the death of the artist. Further information can be obtained from VG Bild-Kunst.
3. Photography, filming, and audio recording for commercial or academic purposes, for public reporting (e.g. press or social media), as well as during guided tours or events, is only permitted with prior written consent.

1. We kindly ask that you treat our security staff with respect and consideration.
2. Our security staff are instructed to ensure compliance with these house rules. Their instructions must be followed at all times, particularly in the event of fire, danger, or other emergencies.
3. Upon request by security staff, bags must be opened for visual inspection when entering or leaving the exhibition areas. We kindly ask for your understanding. Such checks are carried out under the museum’s authority and in accordance with applicable legal provisions. Refusal to comply may result in denial of access to the exhibition areas or removal from the museum premises.
4. In the event of non-compliance with the house rules or instructions issued by security staff, you may be denied further access to the museum. Violations of the house rules may result in removal from the premises, a ban from the museum, claims for damages, and—where applicable—criminal or administrative proceedings. In such cases, no refund of admission fees will be granted.  

The building is subject to video surveillance. Data processing is carried out for the purposes of enforcing house rules and preventing and investigating vandalism, theft, and other security-related incidents, based on Article 6(1)(f) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Further information pursuant to Article 13 GDPR (in particular regarding the data controller, data protection officer, retention period, recipients, and data subjects’ rights) can be found in the separate privacy notice on video surveillance. This notice is available at the ticket desk and on our website.

These house rules take effect immediately. They are displayed in the museum entrance area and can also be viewed at the ticket desk and at any time on our website.
