Photography and Filming Policy

For Personal Use

In the building, permanent collection, and special exhibitions at the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart and at the Museum Haus Dix, photography or filming for private, non-commercial use, generally without a flash, without artificial light (e.g., lamps), tripod, selfie-stick, or drone, is permitted, unless noted otherwise in the wall text or next to the particular work. The safety of the artworks must be ensured by maintaining a minimum distance of fifty centimeters from them. The personal rights of our visitors must also be ensured and they themselves taken into consideration.

This authorization does not apply to third-party rights. We expressly point out that especially the reproduction or dissemination of content protected by copyright or personal rights is subject to approval. Written authorization is required for all uses beyond the general permission; this also applies to subsequent changes in use. Please note, particularly in the case of photos and moving images of contemporary artworks: works by living artists and those who have been dead for less than seventy years are protected by copyright. Reproduction rights must also be observed. Accordingly, any use of recordings of their artworks requires prior clarification with the rights owners. For further information, please contact VG Bild-Kunst.

Photography and filming for commercial, industrial, or research use, as well as in connection with current reporting (press/blogger) is only permitted with the written consent of the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart.

For Press Use

Photography and filming for press use, such as reporting on a current exhibition or on the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart and Museum Haus Dix in general, must be registered and approved in advance.

For Research Use

When using recordings for research purposes, it is also necessary to check whether the artists’ copyrights and reproduction rights exist. This should be decided on a case-by-case basis. Coordination with us is required, however, if printed publications are to be made.
