Contract of Director Dr Ulrike Groos renewed
Dr Ulrike Groos remains Director of the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart until 2029. This was decided unanimously by the board of trustees under the chairmanship of the First Mayor of the Landeshauptstadt Stuttgart, Dr. Fabian Mayer. “Ulrike Groos always considers the connection between her exhibition program and our city and the southwest. However, many exhibitions are recognized internationally,“ explains Mayer. “This makes Ulrike Groos a convincing and important Stuttgart ambassador. I’m very much looking forward to continuing our collaboration.“
Groos has been the director of the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart since 2010. Under her tenure, it was honored “Museum of the Year 2021” by the German section of the art critics’ association AICA. In addition to her duties as managing director, she regularly appears as a curator. Her work focuses in particular on monographic exhibitions—for example on Michel Majerus, Candice Breitz, Patrick Angus, Ragnar Kjartansson, Tobias Rehberger and most recently Wolfgang Laib. Many will remember the interdisciplinary exhibition for the museum’s 10th anniversary in 2015 “I Got Rhythm. Art and Jazz since 1920,” which made music the subject of viewing. With a diverse educational program and numerous collaborations within the city, she seeks to open up the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart to a broad and diverse audience.
